JANUARY
1/1 Started on way from Santa Barbara to Santo Domingo ranch. W T Mead accompanies me. Spent December 21 in El Paso.
1/3 Reached Chicago 3 hours late, plenty of snow, ice etc.
1/4 Arrived in New York 5:45 pm, met JPC (Joseph Perkins Chamberlain) The next day. Rain, snow sleet.
1/7 Started back for California on Pennsylvania Rock Island RR. Changed cars at St Louis; Kansas city next lap
1/10 Two for breakfast, 1.50 dinner. $.85
1/11 Reached Santa Barbara, 11:15 pm Clint and Dot met me with auto. Dot looks very well, says she has been enjoying herself at Jenny’s
1/12 Talked St Domingo business with Ed. Thinks its good. Must raise $100 000 Jenny willing to help
1/13 Saw Judge Richards, George Edwards and harry Lincoln. Edwards does not want to touch Santo Domingo business. Harry Lincon tampoco.
1/14 Babies sick. Saw Harry Lincoln about Santo Domingo business. He is not very encouraging and advised me to go to Los Angeles.
1/15 Long talk about Santo Domingo business. Calculate 12 years from date whole ranch would be paid off. Expect to go to Los Angeles to raise money
1/18 Dot and babies still in bed. Worked on Santo Domingo scheme with ed. Met Mead at Hotel Potter. Very anxious to sell. Mead left for San francisco at 11:15 pm by train 1/21 Met Mead who had options for the Santo Domingo squat. First spoke of incorporating estate.
1/22 Babies much better. Purchased ticket for New York, return by New Orleans. Incorporation of estate commenced.
1/23 Left for San Francisco. The ranch looked fine from the window.
1/24 Saw Selah, Edith had dinner, met folks at 3rd and Townsend, talked over Santo Domingo.
1/26 fairmont Hotel with jenny. Dot and twins left in the morning for Sacramento. Received blueprints of Santo Domingo; got suit of clothes. Took 5 pm train for Sacramento. Dad, grandmother and Laura well. Cold at Sacraenento.
1/27 Talked all day with Joe over the Santo Domingo proposition. Nothing definite arrived at. Decided to return to New York to try for a loan..
